I’m sure that all Eventing enthusiasts are breathing a sigh of relief knowing that the Badminton Horse Trials are going ahead this weekend, starting on Thursday May 2nd with the Young Event Horse Class, and the main event running from Friday the 3rd and finishing on Monday May 6th.
As most of us know, last year the trials were cancelled due to bad weather, and as the winter and early spring weather wasn’t being kind to us we were all on tenterhooks.
Adding to the anticipation came the scare a few weeks ago with the outbreak of Equine Herpes Virus at the Beaufort Stables, situated at Badminton Park, but with the very hard work of the vets and organizers, this was kept under control and Badminton got the nod for the trials to take place.
Last year a fantastic cross country course was designed and built but not used, so, although there have been a few minor changes and repairs to some of the jumps, this years course will be nearly the same as the one which was intended for 2012.
Badminton is a 4* Event and attracts the very best horse and rider combinations from all over the world. The riders must ride their horses in three disciplines on three different days, first the dressage then the cross country and on the last day showjumping.
As we’re in the post Olympic year with the memories of London 2012 still fresh in our minds, I’m sure with the expected good weather conditions, there will be a vast number of people enjoying the beautiful sights in Badminton Park and I bet everyone will feel privileged to watch these very talented horses and riders performing .
I’ve had a very busy couple of weeks, but if I’m able to get myself organized then I’ll be out walking the course on cross country day. Maybe some of you will be there as well!
