Over the years, Belgium have been well represented in the world of eventing, and produced some very good riders. At the moment Karin Donckers is probably their most successful rider, having been Eventing Champion of Belgium several times, and she has also represented her country at many International Events, including European and World Championships and also the Olympic Games.
It’s great to hear that Captain Mark Phillips has signed a contract for one year to give advice to to the Belgian event riders, concentrating mainly on the cross country, so people like Karin and those following in her footsteps, will greatly benefit from this.
Mark Phillips is of course the father of Zara Phillips, former World Champion and member of the British team who won silver at the London 2012 Olympics. Just like his daughter,Mark enjoyed a very successful eventing career, competing at the highest level, also riding for GB. He was a member of the team who won Gold at theMunich Olympics in 1972 and won the famous Badminton Horse Trials 4 times.
I’m sure we’ll continue to see really successful Belgian event riders emerging under the watchful eye of Captain Phillips, where his knowledge and expertise will prove invaluable.
